How do you know if a Greek restaurant in Jeffreys Bay (or any other place in the world outside Greece) is really good? Well, first if you walk past the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon at 3:30pm, and it is completely filled with patrons ---- while other nearby restaurants are nearly empty and waiting for dinner guests in a couple hours.Second, if you walk into the restaurant and hear people speaking Greek at several tables.

When one says "walk in", you have to understand, that the whole restaurant is actually open to the beach across the street. Every table (about 18 or so), whether "inside" or on the terrace has an ocean view.

The Greek is such a place. It has an extensive menu, which is moderately-priced. And what Greek meal is complete with good wine? The Greek has an extensive variety of various wines. And the pricing system is most wallet-pleasing. They start at 45 Rand per bottle! As I was looking over the wines trying to decide on a "red", one server suggested the house red at 45 Rand. He didn't try to guide or push me to a bottle costing 50% or 100% more. Furthermore, it was a great red wine.

The food is fabulous. Whereas the plates of Greek specialties at nearby tables looked and smelled great, I had the whole fresh fish of the day baked in a clay oven priced at 95 Rand. I must add, this was probably the most expensive item on the menu --- so, you know the menu is moderately-priced. My server said it would be almost about a kilogram in weight, and he was right. He pointed to small boats off the beach in the Indian Ocean and said this is where my fish came from. After about 10 minutes I jokingly asked if they had caught my fish, yet. He asked me to follow him to where I could look into the kitchen. A cook was gutting and scaling my kabeljou right then. When it was served on a large plate with Greek salad and potato wedges, well, I was in 7th heaven. It was so much, that I couldn't finish the whole meal. Furthermore, I live in South Florida, and I only wish I could get such a great fresh seafood meal here.

I honestly wish I had been able to stay in Jeffreys Bay for a couple more days, so that I could have enjoyed a couple more dinners there.

The Greek is sooooo good, that even if you are driving past Jeffreys Bay on the Garden Route, it is worthwhile for you to get off the highwway, park your car at The Greek, and have a meal here. Oh, there are some other, higher-priced, older-established seafood restaurants in Jeffreys Bay, but they aren't better than The Greek. I promise you! - Castleblanca TRIPADVISOR.COM
